Tumbz will change the way you discover new movies, books & music.

Exhausted by long, boring, masturbatory elitist critics?
Meet Tumbz.

Charts you'll care about

Tumbz helps you discover albums, movies and books by listening to the opinion of people whose taste you respect. Old school charts and current social networks both fail to give you quality insight about entertainment products. Get charts and product suggestions based on users with interests matchings yours!

What is a "Tumbz up"?

A tumbz up is the action you make when you love a product and choose to share this love with your listeners. Referencing products to the people showing you respect is the best way to give back to the community and help the other users discover new stuff! Everytime you discover the next big thing, come here and tumbz it up for your fans!

What is a "Tumbz down"?

Guess what? A tumbz down is when you hate a product. It will show in the feed of people respecting you. Tell them to stay away of this product and make sure they don't waste their precious time with this crap! ;)

Your Feed vs the Public Feed

feed screenshotThe public feed is where you can see the flow of all tumbz from all users using the app. You'll be able to easily surf through the users profiles and products that were tumbzed lately. It's a good place to get started and discover new users when you begin, but it will most probably won't reflect opinions matching yours most of the time. That's where "Your feed" comes in play.

In your feed, you'll see the flow of all tumbz created by other users you have chosen to follow. This feed will have a high signal vs noise ratio and you'll want to stay tuned as much as possible to see your friends tumbz coming.

Your Charts vs the Public Charts

feed screenshotThe public charts are the same for all Tumbz users. They reflect the latest data entered by all users in their feed across the app. Again, it's a cool place to start and discover users who liked similar movies, albums and books, but you won't see what you really want to see.

As you start following users with interests matching yours, the Your Charts section will start to build up with very cool data. This will be the place that will answer 3 simple questions : What music should I listen today? What movie should I watch tonight? What's the next book I absolutely have to start reading?

About the Tumbz app, history, notes and stuff ;)

This online app was created and is currently developed by quebec developers Pierre-Luc Babin and Frédérick Dubois with the help and advices of Sébastien Morin who initially helped a lot bootstrapping the project by defining the idea and brand.

This web app was created to compensate the fact that old school charts and current social networks both fail to give quality insight about entertainment products. The first one reflecting the opinion of the masses instead of yours while the other ones are filled with noise from forgotten friends and long-seen family members.

Tumbz allows users to get charts and product suggestions based on other users with interests matchings theirs. The goal of the project is to give users charts that they will care about.

Tumbz launched in private beta in mid-january 2012 and is available for sign-ups since december 2012. Current version is coded in Ruby on Rails, optimized for mobile browsing through responsive web design and hosted on Heroku. It uses external APIs for it's products search (Itunes, TMDB, Google Books) and keeps it's data in a MongoDB database, hosted on MongoHQ.

Users of the app are invited to share their feedback and vote for their favorite new ideas in the project's online community.
